How to trust Christ:

By David Devine. May 23rd 2015

Today I would like to talk about how to trust Jesus, I think it’s not only important to believe in Jesus but to trust Jesus. So how does one go about trusting Jesus?

Scenario:
You’re driving on the highway, and you pick up a hitchhiker. Imagine the Car is your life, the road is time, and hitchhiker is Jesus.

car
Question:
So how easy would it be to ask this stranger to take the wheel of the car? To let him steer your life in the right direction.

Quiet certainly it would be easier to give the wheel to someone you know and trust, rather than someone you don’t.
So now the question becomes, how do we get to know Jesus? If it was as simple as someone sitting in a car, you could ask him a question about his life. For us, we don’t have to ask Jesus about his life, it all written for us in the first 4 books of the new testament.

You know, I feel that young people now a day’s grow up in a world where they’re so used to getting anything they wants by asking their parents. “I want a new phone, I want this magazine, I want a new car”. It all becomes easy for them to get what they want because they’re so used to asking.

But what happens when they need something priceless? something money can’t buy. I feel that they become so used to asking their parents for everything they want, that they forget how to ask God, how to seek for help or wisdom.
Not only do they forget HOW to ask God but they forget TO ask God for what only HE can provide.

Sometimes we get into certain situations in our life, and we don’t know what to do or who to ask for help.

We read in Mathew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”.

See what he did there? Ask, Seek, knock. These are all things that we need to do fist, these are all things that, begin within our hearts. God will never put a gun to your head and say “Follow me”, he will never forcibly take the wheel of your life and steer you where you need to go, or bust down the door to your heart.

You need to take the first step, and open up to him. If we never ask for his help, we will never receive his help. If we never knock, he will not open, if we do not seek, we will never find.
And when we open up to him, then we can see him start transforming our lives, we can then start to really appreciate the true love of Christ and his wisdom. The true love of our God.

One of the greatest stories of my bible was the fight between David and the Goliath, and in this revelation, David was the one who took the first step, God was with him because he trusted in God, and it’s fantastic because it’s never written that he has and doubt or fear.
He knew that God will be with him and that together with God, he will do great things. And this is one of the key points, “TOGETHER with God” is something that many Christian struggle to observe.
Some say “Oh I will do this for God the he will do this for me”. they see it as more of a transaction rather than a partnership, a covenant.

Even if you grew up in the church and have known God your whole life, you still need to give your life in the hands of Jesus and have faith in him.

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and I will give you rest”

Someone once told me, that you need to have faith like a water tap. At first is looked at him kind of weird but then he explained it to me.

When you get up in the morning and turn on the water tap, do you even question it?
Do you ever say “oh hope there will be water when I turn the handle”, No, it’s absolute faith, you don’t think about it or even doubt it, it’s just something that you know will happen. That’s the same level of faith/trust you need to have with Jesus.
That’s the same level of faith that David had against goliath, he had the faith of a water tap.

Now, not everyone in the world believes in God or follows Jesus. There are many other religions or beliefs, and when I hear people try and justify that all the religions are right, I then turn to John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

“except through me” Here he is not only supporting the first commandment (to not serve any other gods), but he’s saying “trust me”. he’s saying that he is the only way, and he is the only one who can steer your life in the right direction.

Such a great power, became human, for us. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

You know, there’s two important dates in our life, the first date, we know, when we’re born. The second date, we do not know, the time when we will die. So I ask you, will Jesus be with you during that date?
You need to give him the wheel and trust in him, say “Jesus I’m here, I am opening up and listening to you”. You still have control over the gas pedal, you can go as fast or slow as you want, but you need to give your life to Jesus if you haven’t already.

And if you do not walk with Jesus and study his word, than how can you know him? How can you trust him to take the wheel of your life?

And the Worst thing you can do is kick Jesus out of the car, or forget Jesus is even there for you.

God remembers us. And though you may sometimes forget him, he will NEVER forget you.
